Hillcrest Fire Co. No. 1 proudly protects over 10,000 residences and businesses in an area of about 36 square miles. We operate out of 3 stations with 16 pieces of apparatus, which includes 4 Pumpers, 2 Aerials, 1 Rescue, 1 Rescue-Pumper, 1 Equipment Truck, 1 Brush Truck, 2 Patrols, 3 Chief's Trucks and 1 Fire Prevention Unit. Our department is an all volunteer department with over 250 members, and about 115 of those on the active list.
Hillcrest was organized in 1915. Our department provides fire protection and rescue services within the Moleston Fire District. We are also part of the Rockland Regional Technical Rescue Team, along with the Nanuet, Pearl River and Suffern fire departments. In addition to providing fire and rescue services, we are very active in providing fire safety education to the residents of our community.
We are one of 26 fire departments in Rockland County, NY. Our fire district is the largest in Rockland County, and is the only department to provide coverage in 3 separate towns (Ramapo, Haverstraw and Clarkstown). We are consistently the second busiest department in Rockland County, second only to our neighbors to the south, Spring Valley. Hillcrest is known on the Rockland County fire radio as "DEPARTMENT 6", dispatched on 46.180 MHz.
