![]() Facinelli's Weekly Operational Refresher Week of 12/17/2007
One of the most neglected yet important aspects of winter time firefighter
considerations is body hydration. On a hot summer day, it's much easier to
keep up with your body's loss of water because the heat of the day is a
constant reminder of your thirst. But in winter, the cold conditions make it
harder to respond to thirst. Most of us do not take a long drink of cold water
when it's below freezing weather. Don't wait until you are thirsty. Try to
stay hydrated throughout the day. When properly hydrated, you will notice an
improvement in your physical performance on the fire ground.
Until next week....stay safe! Jeff
