Facinelli's Weekly Operational Refresher

Week of 01/13/2008

Fire apparatus function is paramount in deciding apparatus placement. Effective apparatus placement begins with the arrival of the first units.  First arriving units must place themselves in a position for maximum tactical advantage. The IC or the company officer on the apparatus should recognize if the driver is placing the apparatus in a key tactical position or else take steps to ensure that proper positioning is achieved. Later arriving units should be positioned to assist the first arriving units and allow for expansion of the operation or, if not needed, parked away from the operation at a designated staging area.
